We’ve made it! STD 2×01. YEAHHH!!! Anyway, due to the stellar success of previous STD entries (up to 3 views!), I’m going to keep doing it. I was already watching the ep with the intent to remember enough to write this, but… nothing major really stuck with me. :D Only the guy they brought in just to kill him off right away (Connolly – his character doesn’t even have a first name :D :D :D) and Black Bolt managed to be noticed by me. Inhumans is cancelled then, right? :P

What annoyed me slightly, was how they now started to tell, not show that this is supposed to be a Star Trek show, by having someone drop a line every now and then like “of course we do this, because this is Starfleet and at Starfleet that’s how we do things!”. :D It feels incredibly tacked on, artificial and silly, since the rest of all the eps is still just about explosions and shooting and… And they always said the messages in old-Trek were heavy-handed… ;)

Overall it just looks like they are trying to double down on everything I didn’t like in Season 1. It’s almost fascinating how they aren’t changing anything, given they are changing showrunners all the time. So the new people have the exact same vision, the old ones had. FASCINATING. :D
Again they are just standing around on the ship, they never go anywhere. As good looking as the special effects are, they really don’t allow for any other sets or places. Not on a regular basis at least.
The other thing I constantly complain about and they just can’t help themselves with, is the references to classic Trek lore. Maybe I should have counted how many times they said Spock. The Enterprise reveals how cheap it all is. Season 1 ended by showing the Enterprise and that’s pretty much all they show in 2×01 too, a repeat of the Season 1 scene. The show then moves quickly on, hoping no one will notice how cheap this method is.

Tilly is now in the command training program, but given how Saru joined in the Short Treks, I wondered why they didn’t just slap the uniform on her. :D btw: Gordon Malloy on the Orville 2×04 also just started his command training program. COINCIDENCE?!?

My theory on what the red angel is: Lorca! He's back from the mirror universe and seeks revenge, because Starfleet just abandoned him there. :P #STD #Discovery It's a play on Burnham saying no one on this bridge would abandon another Starfleet buddy. :D
